What can I learn from each person I meet?

November 24, 2024

Each person you meet has learned and gained some lessons in their life.

Nobody has all of the answers, and perhaps some people have done more soul searching and intentional work which allows them to sit with lessons more deeply.

But if we dont see the innate good in each person, we will miss out on a lot of human to human connection.

In a world that keeps wanting to divide us, its so important that we don’t dehumanize anybody.

We dont need to be close to people who are unsafe, but we can humanize all people as a baseline.

And notice what we can learn from others.

When we can be discerning and understanding of what different people can offer us, we will also have a better grasp of what type od relationship we can have with each person.

Not everyone will be someone we will interact with much, but, we can respect them and humanize them from afar still.

Part of this learning is understanding boundaries—knowing where you start and where someone else ends. Pia Mellody’s model highlights different types of boundaries: firm, flexible, and enmeshed.

By being aware of our own limits and respecting others’, we can create healthier, more respectful connections. This clarity helps us discern what kind of relationship we can have with each person.

Understanding boundaries is vital because they help us define our emotional and psychological space in relationships. Knowing where you start and where someone else ends means respecting both your own needs and the needs of others.

When we have clear, healthy boundaries, we can navigate relationships more effectively and maintain our well-being without losing our sense of self.

What might you gain if you walked around the world with the openness and curiosity of, “what can I learn from this person today?”

With curiosity and love,
