Anxiety, perfectionism, and Nike- 'Just Do It!'

Taking action is important


If you know yourself to be someone who thinks a lot (and I mean a lot), ruminates, and has many ideas, but you struggle to actually do the things that you want to do- you cannot wait for yourself to ‘feel like doing it’.


Instead, you have to notice that you are skilled at the ideas part, and your weakness is the execution.


There is no shame in this, when we approach ourselves with self-compassion and understand that we cannot be perfect at everything, it helps us name our growth areas.


It doesn't have to be a weakness forever, though! That's the cool thing!


Especially if you struggle with anxiety and perfectionism, the fear won’t simply disappear.


If something matters to you, do it imperfectly—it's counterintuitive, but when we strive for perfection, it often paralyzes us and prevents any action at all. And that’s a damn waste. Embracing the fear and still moving forward imperfectly is a far more powerful way to live.


It helps, of course, to check in with your parts, see what they need, regulate yourself, do breath work and release the anguish. We can work on these things in therapy.


But beyond that, you cannot hope there will be a perfect moment for action- there is not.


But that's the beauty in free will and choice- you get to carve your own path ✨✨✨
